James F. Price, Jr., “Rick” or “Ricky,” 80, of Dothan, Alabama, passed away peacefully at home on September 22, 2024, after a long, hard-fought battle with Alzheimer’s.
Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. with funeral services at 3:00 p.m. on September 29, 2024, at Ward Wilson Funeral Home with chaplain Tim Stevenson officiating; burial will follow at the Ward Wilson Memory Hill Cemetery.
Born on March 19,1944, in Dale County, Alabama, to the late James F. and Evelyn Price, Rick’s enterprising spirit began early in life. He started his career at the age of nine with a paper route which was quickly followed by a job at a tobacco shop selling cigars and pipes. After graduating from high school and attending Troy State University, he continued to pursue various professions. Sunnyside Nursery, Lorch’s Jewelers, and his family-owned home interior business, Fredrick’s, all gave Rick the opportunity to provide for his family, but they also allowed him to be surrounded by the beauty of this world that he so appreciated. Rick went on to have a career in sales with Mike Schmitz Automotive Group that spanned 15 years. He cherished his relationships with Mike, fellow sales representatives and customers. Then finally, Rick “retired” to develop, own and operate Country Living Mobile Home Park as well as other real estate ventures.
Rick loved the Lord, friends and family, good conversation, animals, painting, music and dancing. Friends and family will remember how he would regale them with stories of his rock and roll band days, dance competitions, fishing trips to the Saint Johns River and the horror stories that came from hanging wallpaper.
In addition to his parents, his grandchildren Jamey Price and Haley M. Price preceded him in death.
He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Ruby Jenelle Price, sons: James F. Price, III (Teresa) and Michael L. Price (Kim); grandchildren: Michael Price, Joshua Cain Price and Becka Price Duke (Marc); five great grandchildren; step children: Wendy Oakley (David), Kim Bradshaw, Mike Watkins; step grandchildren: Katherine Oakley Olson (Luke), Emma, Olivia, and William Oakley, Bailey, Bethany, and Brynley Bradshaw, Brandon Mathis, Alex, Laney and Ryder Watkins; and other extended family and friends.
