James Gary Brown of Dothan, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, April 5, 2013. He was 65 years old.


A home going celebration will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, April 11 at Ridgecrest Baptist Church, 1206 Fortner Street, Dothan, AL. The Reverend Ray Jones will officiate and Reverend Tim Willis along with Ken and Amber Brown will present the music.  A private family burial will be held at Gardens of Memory. The family will be at the family residence and will receive friends there. In lieu of flowers, you may make memorial contributions to Ridgecrest Baptist Church Building Fund.


Gary was born in Dothan to Johnnie and Wilma Capps Brown. He was a 1965 graduate of Ashford High School, served in the United States Air Force and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Gary was employed at Bell Supply Company for over 29 years and Solar Supply for 13 years. He served as President of the Dothan Civitan Club and coached his sons and many other boys in football  at the Dothan Boys Club, baseball with the City of Dothan Recreation Program, church basketball and girls church softball. Gary enjoyed golf with his many golfing buddies. He was a faithful member of Ridgecrest for 34 years serving as deacon, Sunday School director, department director, youth SS teacher, staff committee, usher and sang in the choir. Gary always had a smile and a friendly word for everyone. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.


He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Larry Brown, Don Brown and John Arthur Brown; in-laws, Cap and Sybil Bell and a brother in-law, Phillip Bell.


Gary is survived by his wife of 45 years, Gayle; three sons, Jeff (Denise), Robin (Margaret), Craig (Caroline); precious grandchildren, Preston, Maggie, Virginia, Benjamin, John Calvin and Andrew; brother, Kenneth (Catherine); sisters-in-law, Thelma Brown, Donna Haisten (Cliff) and Carolyn Bell; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.


Serving as active pallbearers will be; Ken Brown, Jimmy Butler, Cliff Haisten, Danny Mallory, Frankie Mathis and Terry Tew. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Oppert’s Sunday School class and Deacons of Ridgecrest.
