James Harrell Stewart, 69, of Ashford, Alabama passed away unexpectedly on July 26, 2020 while loved by many as a private and gentle man.



Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Thursday, July 30, 2020 at Wayside Baptist Church with Reverend Erick Varnum officiating. Burial will follow in Ashford City Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.



The family will receive friends at the church from 1 to 2 P.M. Thursday, one hour prior to the service.



Jim was born on December 11, 1950 in Hollywood, Florida to James and Othell Stewart. He had two brothers, Hubert and Herbert. He married the love of his life, Gail Stewart, March 16, 1970. They were blessed with two children, Elizabeth and James.



Jim served in the Army National Guard as a young man. After serving his country, he was a police officer for several years in Fort Lauderdale and Bay County Florida. In later years, he was a successful contractor where he earned the respect from many in his field before retiring to Alabama.



His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was unendingly proud of Beth, Jimmy, and Gail and always tried his best to support them.



He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Othell and his brother Hubert.



He is survived by his wife, Gail, son James (Heidi), daughter Elizabeth, grandson C.J., granddaughter Meagan, and many nieces and nephews.
