Per his wishes there will be no services at this time. The family Invites family and friends wishing to honor his life to donate to the Steamboat Rock Historical Society, 100 West Market St, Steamboat Rock, IA 50672
Jim was born in Steamboat Rock, Iowa on May 19, 1929, to Wallace Gerald and Sevilla Gellhorn Wooten. He treasured growing up in Hardin County and entertaining family with stories of his childhood on the farm and shenanigans of his youth, both true and fanciful. Born of tough and proud family stock, Jim held tight to his upbringing throughout his life. He left Iowa for service in the United States Navy where he excelled as an electrical engineer, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. After his honorable service, Jim worked and retired from Sherwood Medical (Pfizer) in Deland, Florida. Even though Jim was tough and firm, he had a playful sense of humor that will be sorely missed, particularly by his grandson Ryan, affectionally known as “Bub”.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Earnestine Graham Wooten; a brother, Jon Wooten.
Left to mourn his loss and treasure his memory are his son, James Wooten (Angela) of Dothan, Alabama; a daughter, Tricia McClenahan (Andrew) of Tallahassee, Florida; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Kristensen (Anthony) and Ryan McClenahan; along with three great grandchildren, Hunter, Talan, and Cody.
