James Ira King “Jimmy” passed away Thursday November 22, 2018. He was 72.
Services will be held Saturday, January 12, 2019 at the Blakely Cemetery, an informal event where friends and family are welcome. No flowers please, instead bring a story to share about Jimmy.
Jimmy was born in Albany, Georgia to the late Ira Guy King and Mary Calhoun King. He grew up in Blakely and graduated from Early County High School. After graduation, Jimmy attended ABAC and then started his career in the construction industry working various locations. He was always quick to tell everyone he helped build Farley!
Jimmy made Dothan home for almost 40 years and enjoyed his time spent with friends and family from all over. Those that knew him best knew he was a great story teller. He was the type of story teller who could get a laugh out of the grimmest story, the way he embellished them left you wanting more. Some of his best stories were his fishing stories, and of course the big one that got away which kept getting bigger and bigger as the years went by.
College football was a passion of his, and he loved the Crimson Tide and Bulldogs. Most Saturdays he would schedule his days around football and Mullet; the two things he looked forward to on Saturdays! He will be missed for sure by all that knew and loved him.
Jimmy loved his family and his God. He is survived by his sister, Carmen Miley; son, Jason King; daughter Caitlin (Stephen) Clabough; step son, Jimmy Sass; step grandson, Zach Sass; nephew Farnum (Carla) Miley; Maryanne (Tony) Landcaster.
On a side note, Jimmy will welcome from heaven his first granddaughter in a couple of weeks. He was sure looking forward to meeting such a bundle of joy and told everyone he was going to have a granddaughter.
