Obituary: James “Jim” P. Daughtry


 


James “Jim” P. Daughtry, 71, of Dothan, formerly of Hartford, passed away May 15, 2019 at his residence following a long illness.


 


Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 with military honors at St. Columba Catholic Church in Dothan, AL with Father Gallagher officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing. 


 


The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.


 


In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you honor Mr. Daughtry’s memory with your contribution to the Marine Corps League Detachment #752, PO Box 523, Dothan, AL 36302.


 


James was born February 7, 1948 to the late Troy W. and Kate C. Daughtry of Hartford, AL.  After High School James joined the United States Marine Corps and served in Vietnam.  He was a proud Marine dedicated to serving his country.  Following his military service James attended Auburn University, and was an avid Auburn Tiger Fan.  After Auburn James pursued a forty-year career in Banking.  He had a very successful career with SouthTrust Bank, Bank of Georgia, and Region’s Bank.  James was the Co-Founder of the Field of Hope in Peachtree City, GA.  He was responsible for raising over $1 million dollars to build a sports field for children with special needs.  James was a Paul Harris Fellow in the Rotary Club, and was active in the Marine Corps League both in Georgia and Alabama.  He served in many local and state positions to include serving as the current Commandant of Wiregrass Detachment 752.  In 2012 he was selected as Marine of the Year in his detachment in Georgia.  In 2018 he was honored to be chosen Marine of the Year for the Marine Corp League of Alabama.


 


James is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Ann Marie Daughtry; step-son Alton Cochran his wife Angel Cochran and their five children Zachary, Jacob, Michael, Lawrence, and Seraphina Cochran of Emmett, KS; sister, Carol K. Rice her husband Bill Rice of Enterprise, AL; two nieces: Courtney K. Price and Wendy Krajnik her husband Mike Krajnik, their daughter, Kailey Krajnilk and their sons William and Wyatt Krajnik of Enterprise, AL.


 


The family would like to send a very special thanks to the staff of the Dothan Davita Dialysis Clinic for their excellent care.
