Mr. James Robert (Bob) Penney, II of Cowarts, AL, 60, died Friday, July 20, 2012 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan.


A Memorial service with Military Honors will be held 2 :00 p.m. (EDT) Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Jakin United Methodist Church, North Pearl Street, Jakin, GA, with Reverend Dan Harper officiating.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy association or to the family.


Bob was born September 14, 1951 in Indianapolis, IN. He graduated in 1969 from Franklin Central High School and attended Anderson College. He joined the Army in 1974 and was honorably discharged in 1980. After moving to Jakin, then Dothan, he served in the Alabama National Guard until his retirement in 1993. Bob completed his Associated Degree at Wallace Community College in Dothan. He struggled with Muscular Dystrophy all his life, and became fully disabled in 1995.


He was preceded in death by his father, Caleb C. Penney; a brother, Sherwin C. Penney.


Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Donna Walters Penney, Cowarts, AL; a stepdaughter, Carol Walters , Greenville, TN; Mother, Alberta M. Penney and  a sister, Jaquelin K. Penney both of Jakin, GA; a brother and sister-in-law, Lonnie and Sandra Penney, Wylie, TX; numerous nieces and grand nieces and nephews.
