Obituary: Mr. James Roy Dean
Mr. James Roy Dean of Dothan passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014 at his home. He was 90.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 13, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Edenfield officiating. Burial will follow in the Slocomb City Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Slocomb directing.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made to your favorite charity.
Mr. Dean was born September 9, 1923 in Geneva County to the late LeRoy and Annie Pearl King Dean. James was a proud WWII Veteran of the United States Army and was stationed at various state side posts as well as in the Philippine Islands and attended Bethlehem Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in his earlier years. He possessed a kind spirit and loved to volunteer his time singing at nursing homes, retirement and senior citizens centers. James was an avid gardener and loved sharing his delightful tomatoes with family and friends.
In addition to his parents; two sisters: Mary Lou Dean and Carolyn Dean Justice and two brothers: Clyde Dean and Rex Dean all preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Smith Dean, Dothan; one daughter, Rita Jeanette Dean, Dothan; one brother, Jack Dean (Rejina), Dothan: sister-in-law, Jean Dean Tice, Lovetown; brother-in-law, Jerry Smith (Elizabeth), Wicksburg; several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
Serving as Pallbearers: Greg Dean, Michael Justice, Craig Cote’ David Smith, Jim Helms and Chang Yu.
