Obituary: Mr. James Rufus Waters

 

Mr. James Rufus Waters of Slocomb passed away Sunday, May 12, 2019. He was 73.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Slocomb. Burial will follow in the Union Hill Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday beginning at 1:00 p.m. and continue until service time.

 

Mr. Waters was born July 12, 1945 in Slocomb, AL to the late James Odell Waters, Sr. and Robbie Lee Sorrells. James worked from an early age helping his father and brother on the family farm and then took up and mastered the skill of welding, a vocation that he would practice his entire life. Later in his working career, James was also a truck driver and he was able to travel to many states as he delivered goods. More recently, and after retirement James loved to fish and watch western movies. He also enjoyed the last few years with his numerous friends and the guys down at Keel’s Service Station in Slocomb, where he and others would take part in many discussions about local town happenings. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and community.

 

In addition to his parents, three children: Angela Brown, Diane Holman and Dewayne Waters; one brother, James Odell Waters, Jr.; nephew, Ray Humphries all preceded him in death.

 

Survivors include his grandchildren: Phillip Parrish (Samantha), Justina Waters and Jade Waters; niece, Tonya Bancroft (Donald); great niece, Jasmine and great nephew, Cody; other great nieces and nephews: Melissa Humphries, Brandon Humphries and Travis Humphries; extended family and friends.
