James Edward Smith of Ashford, Al, died Saturday, November 24, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was 75.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, November 27, 2012 in the First Freewill Baptist Church of Dothan with Reverend Steve Trail and Reverend Charles Pierce officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Full Military Rites with Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the services on Tuesday.
Mr. Smith was born February 28, 1937 to the late Ralph and Marie Smith. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a believing Christian for the remainder of his life. He retired from the U.S. Army after twenty five years of service as a Chief Warrant Officer (CW 3). Following his retirement from the military, he served as Transportation Director for the Dothan City Schools for nineteen years. He was a wonderful Husband, Daddy and Granddaddy and will be greatly missed.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Margie Forehand Smith; one son, Steven (Mona) Smith; two grandsons, Kyle Smith and Logan Smith; one sister, Geraldine (John) Bowen; one sister-in-law, Grace Smith.
The family wishes to express special thanks to all our caring friends and especially to Nina Icenogle for all her love, food, and support. Thanks to Gentiva Hospice for their visits and Attentiveness.
