Mr. James Thomas Godwin, age 83 of Rehobeth, AL died Sunday, April 16, 2017 surrounded by his family. Visitation will be at 12:30 PM Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at Selma Baptist Church with the funeral following at 2 PM, Reverend Brent Parker officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Godwin was a lifelong resident of Dale and Houston County, Alabama & attended Midland City High School. He was a US Air Force Veteran and served in the Korean War. He was a Retired Helicopter Mechanic, a Deacon and Longtime member of Selma Baptist Church. He was also an active member and drove the bus for Taylor Senior Citizens Center. Thomas and his wife Bobbie enjoyed planning and participating in trips for friends and family.
Mr. Godwin was preceded in death by his parents Jesse and Dora Godwin, his wife Bobbie, 3 sisters, Myrtie Pearl Anderson, Lillian Willis, Peggy Reynolds, 1 brother, Paul Godwin and a son-in-law, Steve Davis.
Survivors include five children and their spouses Wayne & Carole Godwin, Madrid; Wanda Davis, Taylor; Keith & Lisa Godwin, Slocomb; Kevin & Michelle Godwin, Rehobeth; Joey & Jan Godwin, Dothan. Fourteen Grandchildren: Jenny Godwin, Jesse Godwin, Steve & Krystal Davis, Greg Davis, Chad & Leslie Aycock, Will & Mandy Rich, Forrester & Myranda Godwin, Bryan & Anna Hall and Ashley Martin. Eleven great grandchildren. Three sisters, Agnes Watkins, Dothan; Levene (Kenneth)Johnson, Newton; and Sue (Max) Corbin. A very special niece and her spouse, Brenda & Mike Smith. Five Dear Friends: Mary Johnson, Ann & Eugene Buckhalt, Tommy Thornell, James Gradic.
Flowers will be accepted and contributions can be made to Selma Baptist Church “Forerunners”.
