Mr. JC Baxley passed away on Wednesday 16, July 2014 at home at the age of 80 after an extended illness.


Funeral services will be held at Pilgrim Home Baptist Church with Brother Buddy Hood officiating on Saturday 19 July at 10 A.M. and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Ward Wilson Funeral Home on Friday 18 July from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Flowers will be accepted or in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Gentiva Hospice.


J.C. was born in Skipperville, AL on July 31, 1933 to the late Mr. Jay and Simmie Baxley. He attended Wicksburg High School. At the age of 17 with his mother’s consent he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He went to Korea with the 3rd Marine Division and after 10 years with the Marines he enlisted into the Marine Reserves and worked with Muscogee Lumber Company in Columbus, Georgia. After 2 years with the lumber company he re-enlisted with the United States Navy as a Seabee. He served 3 tours in Vietnam from 1967 – 1970. He retired in 1974 as a 1st Class Construction Man (CM1) on Midway Island. He has been residing in Wicksburg since 1974. He attended George C. Wallace an earned Associate of Science degree in Agriculture and also worked with Red Fox Fertilizer.


J.C. Baxley would always help anyone in need and never met a stranger. He loved to fish, golf and make memories with his family and friends.


In addition to his parents, J.C. was preceded in death by 1 sister Webaline and 1 half-brother Earl Bowden.


Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Rebecca Ann Baxley, one daughter Becky M. Bernhard (Frank) and one son Ronald J. Baxley (Brenda). 1 sister, Jeanette Johnson. He also has 6 grandchildren, Lisa M. Plouffe (Roger) Yulee, FL, Michael J. Bond, (Wicksburg) Mandy M. Bond, (San Diego, CA.), Jayseth C. Baxley, (Bagram, Afghanistan), Hayden Baxley (Andrea), Ft. Rucker, AL., Tori Parsons (Davy), Nashville, TN and 6 great-grandchildren, Tyler and Emily Stuteville, Madison Bond, Roger Plouffe, Ruby Parsons, and Brody Baxley.


Serving as active pallbearers will be: Frank Bernard, Michael Bond, Hayden Baxley, Jayseth Baxley, Roger Plouffe, and Colonnel Driskell.
