Mr. Jerry Driskell, 76 a resident of Wicksburg passed away Saturday April 16, 2016 at his niece’s home surrounded by family.
Jerry was born January 27, 1940 in Houston County to the late B.C. and Vera Scott Driskell. He attended and graduated from Wicksburg High School and George C. Wallace Collage. He was employed through civil service as an aircraft mechanic at Ft. Rucker.
After the death of his wife Sue he met Silvia Truett. He and Silvia spent the next 25 years in a very special relationship. They shared a love of nature and spent countless hours creating a beautiful backyard garden that attracted birds, squirrels, and loved ones. Fridays were for dancing and they had so much fun going. They were both wonderful dancers and looked forward to those times. Sylvia had dementia for 3 years before her death March 20, 2016. Jerry became her caregiver along with Silvia’s daughter, Janice. No one could have been more dedicated. She never forgot who he was and he was there for her until the end. Her children will forever be grateful to him and loved him like a father.
He knew Jesus and was a member of Piney Grove Assembly of God Church.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Sue Driskell, one brother, Comer Driskell, two sisters, Betty Nelson and Rebecca Baxley, one son, Scotty Driskell, one brother in law J.C. Baxley whom he called his brother and loving partner of 25 years, Silvia Truett.
Survivors include his daughter, Sheree Dennard; three grandchildren, Sierra Cox, Justin Cox, and Dillion Driskell; niece, Becky Bernhard; nephew, Ronnie Baxley and numerous cousins.
Funeral services will be held in the Piney Grove Assembly of God Church, Wednesday April 20, 2016 at 11:00 AM with Brother Brian Presley and Reverend Buddy Hood. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6-8 PM at Ward Wilson Funeral Home.
