Mr. Jerry Gay Vaughan of Geneva went home on Tuesday, November 24, 2015, to be with his loving Father, Jesus Christ.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Franklin Vaughan; his parents, Evelyn and Lawrence Vaughan; and his grandparents, Frank and Myrtie Vaughan and Siner and Vera Jones.
Jerry is lovingly remembered by his two sons, Larry Vaughan of Milton, Fla. and Harry Vaughan (Angela) of Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren, Wesley Vaughan, Janette Vaughan, Rebecca Vaughan, Ashley Vaughan and Lindsey Vaughan; great-granddaughter, Julia Vaughan; three brothers, Joe Vaughan (Diane), Jack Vaughan and Jim Vaughan; three sisters, June Jordan (Bobby), Joy Hendrix (Bill) and Jill White.
Jerry was born in Geneva County on August 17, 1935, graduated from Coffee Springs High School and earned his bachelor’s degree from Troy State University and masters from the University of Southern Mississippi. He was director of special education in the state of Florida, retiring from Santa Rosa County Schools after thirty years of service. He continued teaching in Alabama for an additional ten years. Jerry was retired at the time of his passing but was active as a resident of Wiregrass Nursing Home, serving his community as a resident advocate. He was a huge supporter of Alabama Football, watching every game they played, “Roll Tide!”
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 28, 2015, at Providence United Methodist Church with Rev. John Baxter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, November 27, 2015, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
