PLEASANT GROVE, ALABAMA... Mr. Jerry Lamar Stanford, a resident of the Pleasant Grove Community, near Birmingham, died Thursday morning, July 6, 2023, at his home. He was 85.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, July 9, 2023, at Cottage Hill Baptist Church in Pleasant Grove. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Methodist Church Cemetery. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm to 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the church.
Mr. Stanford, son of the late Carl Lee Stanford and Doris Lorene Gable Stanford, was a native of Pleasant Grove, Alabama. He Attended Hueytown High school in Hueytown Alabama. Mr. Stanford was married to the love of his life, Betty Battles Stanford, for sixty-one years. Mr. Stanford served in the Alabama Army National Guard for three years and was later hired at Jim Walter #3 coal mines in Adger, Alabama. He began his employment with Jim Walter on January 6, 1975, and retired twenty-five years later. In earlier years, Mr. Stanford loved traveling to various places and state parks with his family. He enjoyed spending time with his kids and Grandkids who he was very proud of. Mr. Stanford loved and took pride in maintaining his vehicles and working in his yard. In his later years, he loved watching westerns, sitting in his garage chewing tobacco, and making occasional trips to town. One of his biggest tv icons, was Chuck Norris, classic Gunsmoke, Andy Griffith, Star Trek Shows, as well as the original Star Wars, and Superman movies. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Battles Stanford, a son, Howard Lamar Stanford, a brother, Ronnie Stanford, and one sister, Margaret Arnold.
Surviving relatives include one daughter, Tammy S. English (Larry), two sons, Michael Scott Stanford and Carl Lee Stanford, all of Pleasant Grove; his brothers, James Stanford (Betty Ann), and Gary Wayne Stanford (Joy); grandchildren, Karla Porter (Justin), Justin L. English (Sabrina), Liam Stanford, Ava Stanford, Caleb Stanford, and Bayleigh Stanford; great-grandchildren, Layla Lee English, Betty Lee English, Austin Lamar Richards, and William Osborn; nieces and nephews.
