Jessie Mark Scott, a long time resident and businessman in Dothan, Alabama left this world peacefully on October 3 at the age of 80.  


 


Graveside Services will be held at 3:30 PM Sunday, October 5 at Dothan Cemetery with Ansley Whatley officiating. His family will receive friends from 1 PM until 3 PM at Westgate Church of Christ, 617 Westgate Parkway, Dothan AL 36303. Family and friends are invited to attend.  Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions can be made to Wiregrass Christian Youth Camp, PO Box 311072, Enterprise AL 36331, Vaughn Blumberg Center, 2715 Flynn Road, Dothan, AL 36304. 


 


Mr. Scott was born in Barbour County, Alabama, the son of the late Willis Gordon Scott and Rosa Emily Benton Scott.  He lived in Tallahassee Florida, Donalsonville, Georgia and settled in Dothan, Alabama in 1965. He worked at Florida State University, Great Southern Paper Mill and when he moved to Dothan, he opened Scott Nurseries and later built Green Hill Golf Course.  


 


He was a member of Donalsonville Church of Christ, Park Avenue Church of Christ and Westgate Church of Christ.  He served as Deacon of Benevolence and enjoyed playing and coaching church softball.  He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing as often as he could with his friends, brothers and family members.  He was a member of the Houston County Kiwanis Club for many years and served as past president. He served the Rehobeth School Board as a trustee and was Band Booster President for several years.  


 


Mr. Scott was preceded in death by three sisters, Lessie Spann, Ruby Kate Curenton and Willie Pearl Carpenter, and five brothers, Calvin Scott, Cary Scott, Ned Scott, Luke Scott and Ted Scott.  


 


Surviving relatives include; his three daughters, Tammala Scott Spencer (Tim) Panama City, FL; Laura Scott Dorsch, Tallahassee, FL and Starla Scott Atkinson, (Christopher) Franklin, TN; one son, Matt Scott, (Anna) Dothan, AL; mother of his children, Merlene Scott, Dothan, AL; eight grandchildren, Braden and Anna Blake Atkinson, Tuscaloosa, AL; Bruer Atkinson, Franklin, TN, Jordan and Andrew Dorsch, Tallahassee, FL; Cole, Sawyer and Ali Scott, Dothan, AL ; two sisters-in- law, Helon Scott and Elwyn Scott both of Dothan. 


 


Serving as pallbearers are Timothy Spencer, Michael J. Thomas, Christopher Atkinson, Braden Atkinson, Bruer Atkinson and Andrew Dorsch.
