Mr. Jimmie Karon Sammons of Dothan passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at Flowers Hospital. He was 74.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 2, in Harpers Joy Assembly of God Church with Rev. Eddie Littlefield and Rev. Thomas Harrison officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in the Poplar Springs Community at 3:15 p.m. with full military honors and with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Mr. Sammons was born on May 29, 1938 in Geneva County, AL to the late Lonnie Arthur and Eula Bell Sammons. He was a proud 26 year veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in Vietnam.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, John David Sammons; a brother, Royce Sammons; and a sister, Nina Sue Yeomans.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda Sammons, of Dothan; one son: Fredrick Sammons (Dalena) of Newton, TX; two step-sons: Jerry L. Broxton (Marie) of Fadette, Jason Broxton (Leslie) of Enterprise; ten grandchildren: Kayla, Megan, Tatum, Payton, Jerrah (Brenn), Chelsea, Brittany, Nick, Matt, and Drew; one great grandchild: Badin; a brother: Robert Earl Sammons (Glenda Faye) of Hartford; several nieces and nephews.
