James Grover “Jimmy” Meggs, a resident of Dothan, died Friday, August 7, 2015 at his residence. He was 54.
Funeral services for Mr. Meggs will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, August 11, 2015 in Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage with Reverends Jim Tate, Rick Glen and Scott Matthews officiating. Burial will follow at Memphis Baptist Church cemetery with Southern Heritage directing. The family will receive friends from 6 PM until 8 PM Monday, August 10, 2015 at the funeral home.
Jimmy grew up in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He lived most of his adult life in Dothan. He owned Meggs BP for many years and also owned Meggs Bait & Tackle. Jimmy enjoyed playing golf, was an avid bass fisherman and loved Alabama football. He was active in the Rehobeth High School Quarterback Club and Rehobeth High School Bass Team and was a member at Memphis Baptist Church. The family will be at 4200 Memphis Church Road, Dothan, AL 36301.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his father, Henry Russell Meggs, SR.; mother, Katherine Meggs Brown; father in law and mother in law, James and Mary Nell Kirkland.
Survivors include his wife, Valisa Meggs; son, Tyler Meggs; brothers, Russell Meggs, Jr. (Rebecca), Steve Meggs (Sandra), half-brother, Heath Meggs; brother in law, Tim Kirkland and a step-father, James Brown.
Serving as pallbearers will be; Chris Meggs, Josh Meggs, Hunter Wilkinson, Chris Hale, Rickey Henderson and Marc Vaughn.
