Mr. Jimmy Ray Ward, Sr., of Stephenson Road, Samson, Alabama passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2013. He was 67.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 3, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Jimmy Eddins and Rev. Donnie Earles officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors and Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, August 2, from 6 until 8 p.m.
Jimmy was born September 6, 1945, in Geneva County, Alabama to the late Grover Cleveland and Clara V. Baine Ward. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Army serving with the Artillery Division 1st Battalion and 92nd Artillery which were known as “The Devil Cannons”. His military career included a tour in Vietnam. For almost 20 years he worked with Conagra and Showell Farms as a Poultry Contractor. He also enjoyed farming and gardening. Jimmy was a member of the First Assembly of God in Samson.
In addition to his parents a brother, Donald Roy Ward, preceded him in death.
Survivors include the mother of his children, Linda Gayle Mock Ward, Samson; one son, Jimmy Ray Ward, II, (Jennifer), Enterprise; two daughters: Sarena Lynn Ward Jenkins (Brandon), Humble, TX and Tammy Renee Ward Barbaree (Chan), Elba; 12 grandchildren: Jordan, Kendall, James Brandon and McKenzie Jenkins, Ashton, Sydney and Gracie Ward, Evan, Dylan and Aidan Smith, Chance and Shelby Barbaree; two sisters: Clara Jean Jones, Enterprise, and Patty Horne (Mark), Geneva; three brothers: James Ward (Peggy), Eddie Ward, Sr., and Terry Ward (Denise), all of Samson; 30 nephews; 14 nieces; other extended family and friends.
