Obituary: Mr. Joe Earl Rogers
Joe Earl Rogers passed away on August 29, 2023 after an extensive battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 79.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at First Baptist Church of Slocomb with Rev. Brad Price officiating. Burial will follow in the Slocomb City Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing.
The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday beginning at 9:00 a.m. and continuing until service time.
Mr. Rogers was born June 22, 1944 in Bonifay, FL to the late Hosea and Oneta Skipper Rogers. He was a loving, kind person with a heart for helping others. He served in the Alabama National Guard for 25 years and was also a firefighter at Fort Rucker for 24 years. For over 50 years, he owned and operated Rogers’ Taxidermy in Dothan. For many years, he was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Slocomb where he served in various positions. He was a deacon, training union teacher and director. He loved going on various missions’ trips and serving in various ways within the church. He enjoyed restoring antique cars and his favorite was a 57 chevy. He was one of the chartering members of the New South Cruisers car club in Dothan. He loved fishing and was an avid gardener. His greatest joys were enjoying his family, grandchildren and his furry companion “Otis”. He left a legacy for his family as a wonderful, Christian person who served others.
Mr. Rogers is preceded in death by his nephew, Brandon Hendrix.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Gloria Strickland Rogers; daughter, Michele Mynard (Jody); son, Joe Earl “Joey” Rogers Jr.; grandchildren: Noah, Hannah, and Hope Mynard and Camryn, Madison, and Justin Rogers; brother, Winton Rogers; sister-in-law, Tonya Maurice (Craig); nephew, Grant Hendrix (Lekresha); great niece, Addison Hendrix; great nephew, Jarrett Hendrix; other extended family and friends.
