Joel Burtrand Meredeth, a resident of Dothan, Alabama, passed away peacefully at his home Sunday, July 17, 2022 surrounded by his family, after an extended illness. He was 75.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 11 AM Thursday, July 21, 2022 in Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage with Brother Fred Mallory officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 AM until 10:45 AM prior to the service at the funeral home. Private family burial will be held following the service.
Joel was born January 1, 1947 in Marianna, Florida to the late Walter and Hazel Calloway Meredeth. He attended Columbia High School. Following high school, Joel was employed by the City of Dothan as the first Manager of the Civic Center. He was instrumental in bringing a variety of “big name” entertainment to the Civic Center in the 70’s. Following his work from the City, Joel was employed as Plant Project GO Manager at Michelin Tire Corporation, traveling worldwide for the company.
Joel was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Walter A. and Jimmy Ray Meredeth; in-laws, Woodrow and Eleanor Pitts; sister-in-law, Carol Pitts Knight.
Joel is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gayle Pitts Meredeth; children, Robert Joel (Kim) Meredeth, Candice Meredeth (Todd) Weaver; siblings, Nancy Colella, Judy (Joe) Hart, Phillip (Pam) Meredeth, Lynn (Ted) Kazalas; grandchildren, Loren Weaver, Meredeth (Daniel) Weathers, Evyn Meredeth, Anslee Weaver, Ellie Meredeth, Gray Meredeth, Alexis Weaver and Stacy, John and Stephanie Kazalas.
