John Burl Price of Grimes passed away at Southeast Alabama Medical Center, Thursday, February 6, 2014. He was 89.
Born February 12, 1924 in Houston County to the late Marvin and Foy Whittle Price. Mr. Price was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary H. Price, his daughter, Janis Maria Brooker, his brother, Eugene (Laura) Price; sisters, Louise (Robert) Marshall, Lois (Berman) Buckhalt, and Frances (Bill) Ross.
Mr. Price is survived by his children Thomas A. (Martha) Price and Mary Ann (Don) Calton; his brother, Joe Wayne (Sharon) Price; his grandchildren, Thomas M. (Helen) Price, Courtney (Brett) Ballengee, and Chris Calton; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Price proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, 5th Division at Iwo Jima during World War II. He, his wife and family members enjoyed attending several 5th Division Marine reunions during his lifetime. He also enjoyed participating in an “Honor Flight” trip to Washington, D. C. in his later years.
Mr. Price was a kind and patient family oriented person of the highest caliber, always putting his family before himself. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He always promoted a Christian way of life and most recently was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Two of his greatest interests included fishing and gardening. Mr. Price retired as an automotive instructor having taught at Patterson Technical School in Montgomery. During his career he pursued a college education and was a graduate of Auburn University.
Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Sunday, February 9, 2014 from the Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Chaplain Eddie Biss officiating and burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 PM until 3 PM Sunday, February 9, 2014.
Serving as pallbearers will be Don Buckhalt, Matt Price, Chris Calton, Charlie Miller, Mike Price, and Bob Marshall.
The family wishes to thank all those who supported Mr. Price in his last years of declining health including the staff of Wesley Manor and Gentiva Hospice.
The family will be accepting flowers or donations may be made to Gentiva Hospice in memory of John Price.
