John Calvin Strickland, Jr., a resident of Ashford, died Saturday, August 8, 2015 at Wesley Manor. He was 88.


 


Funeral services for Mr. Strickland will be held at 11AM Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at Rocky Creek United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 10 AM until 10:45 AM prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rocky Creek UMC Cemetery Fund, PO Box 677, Ashford, AL 36312.


 


Mr. Strickland was born March 25, 1927 to the late John Calvin and Alice Mixon Strickland, Sr. He attended Cottonwood High School and was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II. Upon returning from the war, Mr. Strickland began a career as a Firefighter with the City of Dothan and retired after 20 years as a Captain.     He enjoyed gardening and fishing and was a member of Rocky Creek United Methodist Church.


 


Mr. Strickland is preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Strickland.


 


Survivors include his wife, Betty Ruth Strickland, Ashford; two daughters, Shelia and Dennis Robbins, Dothan, Delane and Mike Parris, Hoover; son, Steve and Cindy Strickland, Dothan; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; sister, Ann Kirkland; brother, Dan Strickland, both of Cottonwood.
