OZARK…. Mr. John D. Rook, Sr., (Sergeant Major, U.S. Army, Retired) a resident of Ozark, died Friday afternoon, August 7, 2020 in Dale Medical Center. He was 81.


            Funeral services, with military honors, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 15, 2020 in the Stonebridge Church of God with Reverend Floyd Ingram officiating, Burial will be in Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola, Florida. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Saturday in the church sanctuary.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be to Stonebridge Church of God, 649 Skipperville Highway, Ozark, Alabama 36360.


            Mr. Rook, son of the late Robert E. Rook and Irene Savoy Rook, was a native of Williamsport, Pennsylvania. He lived in various locations in the United States and overseas, while serving in the United States Army. Mr. Rook was a Vietnam Veteran and retired with the rank of Sergeant Major at Ft. Rucker, Alabama. While at Ft. Rucker, he served s the Garrison Sergeant Major. Mr. Rook moved to Ozark in 1984 following retirement, and received his Bachelors Degree in Early Adult Developmental Problems/Family Counseling from Troy State University. He owned and operated Counseling Plus of the Wiregrass. Mr. Rook was an active member of the Stonebridge Church of God where he taught Sunday school and served on the church council. Mr. Rook was joined in his heavenly home by his wife of sixty-years, Monday, August 10, 2020.


            Surviving relatives include three daughters, Candace Rook, Navarre, FL; Sherri Bolding, Greer, SC, and Angel Joan Crawley; his son, John D. Rook, Jr. (Sergeant Major, United States Army, Retired) and wife, Roberta Lynne, Lillington, NC; grandchildren, Taylor Brock Balfer, Whitney Lauren Avery, John David Rook, III; great-grandchildren, Sadie Quinn Avery, Holden Matthew Ackerman, and Hailynne Brittany Ackerman.
