The Legendary John Edward Penn.
John Edward Penn, 64, resident of Wicksburg, Alabama passed away early Friday morning, September 18 after a long battle with Leukemia. He had hung in like a hair in a biscuit. He was at his home, in his man cave, surrounded by family, friends, his dog, and football.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Monday, September 21, 2015 at the Ward Wilson Funeral Home, 2414 Hartford Hwy, Dothan, AL with Dothan Police Chaplin Eddie Henderson and Dothan Fire Chaplin Earl Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at Ward Wilson Funeral Home on Sunday, September 20th from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to bethematch.org<http://bethematch.org> in John’s honor. Alabama or other football apparel will be favored attire over a "Dang suit and tie," but whatever you want is good with him. Sorry Pallbearers and Honor Guard, you are screwed.
John was born on April 12, 1951 in Hialeah, FL, the son of Pastor Richard Stanley Penn and Sara Elizabeth Dallas Penn. They were extremely loving and caring parents that they didn’t have to be, he was adopted. They far surpassed expectations with raising this wild child. He was a 1969 graduate of Cottonwood High School, and received an Associates Degree from Wallace College. John was a Vietnam Veteran. He retired after 30 years from his "position" as a Conservation Officer for the State of Alabama and was a Pinckard Police Officer for the 7 years following his State retirement in 2004. He was a partner and co-founder in Penn Lawn Care. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and making jokes, picking on people with his lovable sarcasm and making them smile. He truly valued a good friend and a good time, and therefore had entirely too many to count. His number one Life lesson was to enjoy the simple things in life; family, friends, football, good food, and a good dog. He was a true supporter of his Community, State and Country.
He was preceded in death by his parents Stanley and Sara Penn, his in-laws Emmett and Odell Stewart, and two special dogs, Bambi and Buddy I.
John is survived by his loving, devoted "Yes Dear" wife Carol Penn, Wicksburg; he was Pops to two sons: Head of the Klampets John "Boy" William (Joanne) Penn, Wicksburg; Head of the Brady Bunch Jason "Wormy" (Amy) Penn, Dothan; his daughter: Shayna "BabyGirl" Penn, Acworth, GA; his loyal dog BudBud; seven grandchildren that made him the famous PawPaw: Caitlyn, Courtney, Madalyn, Zane, Ryan, Sarah, and Kason; and numerous nieces and nephews and other family members.
Serving as active Pallbearers will be his sons, John W. and Jason Penn, a special family friend Scott "Catfish" Berti, Retired Conservation Officers Ronald Smith and Lowell Williams, and Police Officer Garrett Maund. Honorary Pallbearers will include all State of Alabama Conservation Officers, Dothan Police Department, Dothan Fire Department, Houston County Sheriff’s Department, Alabama State Troopers, Pinckard Police and Ft Rucker DPS.
This world will never be the same.
