OZARK… Mr. John Howard Griner (CW4, United States Army, Retired), a resident of Ozark, died Saturday morning, June 24, 2023, in Dale Medical Center. He was 48.
Funeral services will be held at 6:00 P.M. Thursday, June 29, 2023, in the Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Leon Estep officiating. Graveside services, with full military honors, will be 10:00 A.M. (E.T.) Friday, June 30, 2023, at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, Alabama. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 6:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Griner was born February 13, 1975, in Nashville, Georgia and was a graduate of Berrien High School. He joined the United States Army in November 1993 and retired with the rank of CW4 after seven overseas tours. Mr. Griner enjoyed traveling with family and friends, farming, woodworking, especially making cabinets, and being a mentor to others. He was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan. Mr. Griner was preceded in death by his father, Henry Alfred Griner; sister, Laura Leigh Griner; grandparents, Henry Edgar Griner and Lillian Wells Griner and Aaron Jackson Gibson and Abbie Stephens Gibson.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Permelia Su Lyn Griner; his daughter, Dawn Victoria Brown (Demontre Laniel Brown), Daleville; mother, Nancy Deloris Clawson, Thomasville, Georgia; two sisters, Amy Lumpkin (Jeremy), Jacksonville, Florida and Ashley Doler (Chris), Thomasville, Georgia; his brother, Stephen Griner (Jennifer), Cairo, Georgia; his very special military brothers, Pak Kim, Pensacola, Florida and Steven Craig Estep, Ridgeville, South Carolina; nieces and nephews, Jackson Griner, Jake Griner, Jonah Griner, Joseph Griner, Clay Lumpkin, Reese Wingfield (Thomas), Jordan Hinson (Jason), and Gavin Gibson; great nieces and nephews Ellie Hinson, Isaac Wingfield, and Azura Wetzel.
