Obituary from Holman Funeral Home and Cremations – Ozark, AL

“This establishment does not own a crematory.”

Mr. John Wesley Hughes died peacefully on July 22, 2020 shortly after celebrating his 85th birthday.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday, July 26, 2020, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home and Cremations in Ozark with Reverend Josh Sims officiating.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ozark Sunday one hour prior to service time.

John was born in Tennille, Alabama on June 16, 1935.  He lost both his parents at an early age and was raised by his uncle Lewico Allen, who he called Dad. His love of hunting and fishing was only surpassed by his love of Jesus Christ and his family, and of course Alabama Football (Roll Tide).  He was a loving father, and friend to many, he never met a stranger. He enjoyed sharing the word of our Heavenly Father with anyone he met. During his lifetime he was a farmer, building contractor, business owner. He was an avid award-winning fisherman to include the Bass Masters club, and a fishing guide on Lake Eufaula.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Alva Lee Hughes, and his uncle, Lewico Allen.  He is survived by his three daughters: Deborah Reeves (Steve), Panama City, FL; Bonnie Murray (Greg), Ozark, AL; and Lee Newman, Daphne, AL. Nine grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his memory to Alzheimer’s Resource Center, P. O. Box 1170, Dothan, Alabama  36302.

Condolences may be expressed at www.HolmanFuneralHome.com
