Mr. Johnnie Lee Cox of Slocomb passed away Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Noland Hospital in Dothan following an extended illness. He was 76.


 


Funeral services will be held on Monday at 2:00 p.m. in the Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel in Slocomb with Rev. Dr. Walter Reeder officiating. Burial will follow in the Hurricane United Methodist Church Cemetery.


 


The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. At all other times they will be at the family residence on Co Rd 85 South.


 


Johnnie was born Nov 8, 1935 in Geneva County to the late Charlie H. and Lettie L. Fondren Cox. He retired after 35 years of service with the GTE Telephone Company and also 35 years in the National Guard. He was a member of the Hurricane United Methodist Church.


 


In addition to his parents, three grandchildren: Amanda Leigh Cox, Kayla and Matthew Lee Williams all preceded him in death.


 


Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Sarah Myers Cox, Slocomb; daughter, Beth Williams (Randall), Dothan, son, Michael Lee Cox (Jackie), Slocomb, two sisters: Mary Jane Hatcher (Henry), Delores Peterson (Jerry) all of Hartford, three brothers: Henry Cox (Cheryl Sue), Slocomb, Charles Cox, Hartford, Jim Cox (Paula), Lynn Haven, FL; two grandchildren: Payton Williams and Paige Williams, several nieces and nephews.
