SKIPPERVILLE… Mr. Johnny B. Wood, Sr., a resident of Skipperville, died late Monday evening, January 9, 2023, in an Ozark nursing home. He was 83.


            Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, January 13, 2023, in the Westview Memorial Cemetery Chapel with his nephew, Johnny Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 P.M. Friday at the chapel.


            Mr. Wood, son of the late Jay Bennett Wood and Ruby J. Westbrook Wood, was a native of Gwinnett County, Georgia and moved to Ozark in 1959. He was retired as a truck driver from Alabama Motor Express Trucking (AMX) in Ashford after twenty years of employment. Mr. Wood enjoyed Western movies and history. He was happiest when he was with his family. Mr. Wood was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-one years, Maxine Rogers Wood; two sons, Johnny B. Wood, Jr. and Justin Wood; a brother, Jack Wood.


            Surviving relatives include his three daughters, Justy Bundy (Jeff), Ozark, Joley Coaker (Greg), and Melanie Cook (Derrick), Skipperville; two sons, Jay Wood and Jerry Wood, both of Ozark; nine grandchildren, Chance Wood, Cole Wood, Christian Carpenter (Brandon), Caleb Coaker (Savannah), Lauren Ashley Harrington (Tyler), Loghan Battles (Hayes), Ethan Wood, Jerah Wood, and Dixie Wood; great-grandchildren, Rhemy Carpenter, Emma Carpenter, Ross Bennett Coaker, Ryleigh Harrington, Grainger Harrington, Garrison Harrington, Piper Battles, Kipton Battles, Nellie Strickland, Katie Grace Childree, Reagan Cook, and Spencer Cook; several nieces and nephews.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Todd Heath, Chance Wood, Cole Wood, Caleb Coaker, Ethan Wood, and Reagan Cook.
