Johnny Herman Dunning, 82, of Midland City, Alabama, died Sunday, September 15, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.


Graveside funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at Memphis Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Jim Tate and Reverend Ernest O’Neal officiating and Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing. The body will be placed in Memphis Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday and the family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Tuesday prior to the graveside service.


Born in Montgomery, Alabama, Johnny was a son of the late Wilburn Carl and Mary Shirah Dunning. Mr. Dunning worked as a cost accountant with Hedstrom Union Company for thirty six years prior to his retirement. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and is a member of Memphis Baptist Church.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Memphis Baptist Church building fund, 4595 Eddins Road, Dothan, Alabama  36301.


Surviving are his wife of sixty three plus years, Gwen Cherry Dunning, Midland City, Alabama; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike (Linda) Dunning, Mark (Angela) Dunning all of Dothan, Alabama; a daughter, Dawn Theune, Dothan, Alabama; eight grandchildren, Emily (Vince) Jernigan, Suzanne Dunning, Brad (Charlsie) Dunning, Mary Hannah Dunning, David Dunning, Sydney Smith, Jordan Smith, Ward Smith; two great grandchildren, Parker Jernigan and Thomas Jernigan.
