Joseph Carl Hagler, a resident of Louisville, Alabama passed away Thursday, August 15, 2024, at his residence. He was 96 years old.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 18, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. in the Glover Funeral Home Chapel in Clayton, Alabama with Rev. Don Highland officiating and Glover Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow in the Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted.
Carl was born July 12, 1928, in Clayton, Alabama to the late John Thomas Hagler and Mary Frances Mitchell Hagler. He was a Sargeant in the United States Army where he served in the Korean Conflict. Later, Carl worked in law enforcement and was Chief of the Louisville Police Department and retired as Captain of the Barbour County Sheriff’s Department. Carl enjoyed a variety of hobbies that included fishing, gardening, working outside, DIY projects, music, and playing the guitar. He served as a Deacon at Bethlehem Baptist Church for many years and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, where he received his 50-year pin in 2023.
He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Tom Hagler, Leon Hagler, and John Hagler, Jr.; five sisters, Lucille Jernigan, Betty Lou Arrington, Essie Mae Watson, Ruby Hagler, and Gertrude Greathouse.
Survivors include his loving wife of 73 years, Bonnie Marie Mock Hagler; four daughters, Donna Williams (Thomas) of Eufaula, Deborah Tew (William) of Eufaula, Peggy Hagler (Mark Bottoms) of Clayton, and Pam Williams (Robert) of Abbeville; brother, Henry Dewitt Hagler of Pinson, Alabama; nine grandchildren, Susan Shelley (Chad), Luann Dollar (Ricky), Jonathan Tew (Leigh), Deanna Bailey (Johnathan), Mack Williams Jr., Camille Williams, Zachary Williams (Megan), Carly Jo Martin (Nolan) and Starla Sloan; fifteen great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Asked to the serve as pallbearers are Jonathan Tew, Zachary Williams, Mack Williams Jr., Nicholas Shelley, Adam Shelley, Ellis Williams, Stephen Dollar, and Hugh Dollar.
