Obituary: Mr. Joseph "Fern" Sanders
Mr. Joseph "Fern" Sanders of the Fadette Community of Geneva County passed away Friday, October 16, 2015. He was 91.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2015, in the chapel Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory in Slocomb with Rev. Stephen Sanders and Rev. John Taylor officiating and Wayne Barrentine delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in Pilgrims Rest Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
Fern was born September 3, 1924 to the late Horace and Ella Jane Hall Sanders. He joined the military at a very young age and served his country honorably in World War II. After his military service, he met and married the love of his life Lois and lived happily together for 70 years. Fern was engaged in farming for most of his life and attended Pilgrims Rest Primitive Baptist Church. He was a adoring husband, caring father and grandfather who will be dearly missed.
In addition to his parents, his wife Lois Kirkland Sanders; grandson, Roger Sanders; sisters: Ola Bee Sanders and Cora Lee Sanders preceded him in death.
Survivors include his children: Terry Sanders (Roxie), Sharon Barrentine (Wayne), and Stephen Sanders (Sue); grandchildren: Jennifer Ernest (James), Denise Middlebrooks (Chuck), Lee Taylor (John), Tim Sanders (Marlana), Lynn Baker (Jerry), and Kathy Quach (Ken); great grandchildren: John and Sam Ernest, Jack, Flanna and Bailey Middlebrooks, Zech, Anderson, and Ella Taylor, Peyton Sanders, Trey and Cieara Baker, Chris Sanders, Emma Lee, Camden and Sophia Quach; several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
Pallbearers will include Mr. Sanders grandsons, Tim Sanders, Jack Middlebrooks, Chris Sanders, Trey Baker, Anderson Taylor, Zech Taylor, James Ernest, Sam Ernest and Peyton Sanders.
