Joseph Wilburn Odom, a resident of Dothan, died Friday July 22, 2016 at his residence. He was 89.
Funeral services for Mr. Odom will be held at 2 PM Monday July 25, 2016 at Mt. Enon Baptist church with Rev. Jerry Hood officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 PM until 1:45 PM prior to the service at the church.
Mr. Odom was born October 25, 1926 in Chipley, Florida to the late Wylie J. and Floy Shipes Odom. He served in the United States Army and worked as a heavy equipment operator. Mr. Odom was known as a family man that enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was also an outdoorsman that loved his garden, pecan orchard and working his fish pond. Mr. Odom was the oldest member of Mt. Enon Baptist church where he was in the Mens 2 Sunday School class.
Mr. Odom is preceded in death by his wife, Mavis Odom; two sons, Richard Lee Odom, David Bass; grandson, Chris Hildenburg; four brothers, and two sisters.
Survivors include three daughters, Wanda Gutrie (Don), Rita Meadows (Jeff), Joy Murrah (Wayne); nine grandchildren, Jason Galvan, Jory Odom, Nicole Erwin, Carman Strickland, Brad Murrah, Shay Johnson, Rita Odom, Rebecca Odom and Jennifer Morton; twelve great grandchildren; brother, Robert Ezra Odom; two sisters, Catherine Suggs and Earnestine Gavin.
The family would like to especially thank Sonia Blanks and Linda Webb for the care and love shown to Mr. Odom.
