Joseph William Pace died December 3, 2014 leaving behind a loving legacy of family and friends.  He was 93.  


 


A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at the Bay Springs Baptist Church on Bay Springs Road, Dothan, Alabama with Rev. Colley Holloway and Rev. Scott Cox officiating.  The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service.


 


Rev. Pace was born December 23, l920 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to John Pace and Bessie Eylar Pace.  He had one older brother, Jack Pace.  He graduated high school from Shawnee High School, playing football there and then later at Oklahoma Baptist University until he broke his back.  From there he helped his dad build significant structures on campus and was the artist for several venues. 


 


 He married Audie Kathleen Cole on May 21, 1948, worked for an auto parts store and then became an ordained minister.  Bill pastored several churches in Oklahoma through the years, and later in Independence, Kansas.  Upon retirement, he and Audie moved to Alabama to be closer to children and grandchildren.  He continued to pastor churches in Dothan and surrounding areas as well as travel to several countries with his wife doing mission work.  He also served on the Southern Baptist Mission Board for several years.  


 


Bill is survived by his daughter, Linda Pace Maddox, and husband, Jay Paul Maddox.  They have four children, Ashley, Jeremiah, Joshua, and Alexandra.  Jeremiah and Abby have the four grandchildren, Pace, Mary Aplin, Jay Paul, and Mae.  He is also survived by several other nieces and nephews in Oklahoma and Texas.
