Kenneth Polk, a resident of Dothan, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at a local hospital. He was 69.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Wounded Warrior Project, woundedwarriorproject.org.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his first wife, Cathy Hooten Polk, his parents, Georgia Welch Polk and Lawton L. Polk and by his maternal grandmother, Gertie Odessa Welch.

Kenneth was born on October 21, 1950 in Pell City, Alabama and lived the early years of his life there. He was an avid freshwater fisherman. Kenneth was employed with Bell South for over 30 years. He enjoyed music festivals and Alabama football. He was a proud grandfather and loved spending time with his family. Ken was very proud of his Scottish heritage and was a member of Clan Pollock/Polk. He also traveled to Scotland and walked much of their lands and most likely followed in their footsteps. Soccer was also one of his interests. He was a volunteer soccer coach for Pinson High and was instrumental in helping in the formation of their program. Eventually he started officiating high school games after his children moved on to other interests. Ken spent many hours volunteering with the Bell South Pioneers Community programs and also with the Sierra Club leading many wildlife trips while enjoying the kinship on many hiking and canoe trips.

Ken is remembered as a kind and gentle friend. He was a devoted Dad and loving husband. He loved to say that he served the Queen “Lana” and his cats.

Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Lana Polk; his son, Kenneth “Kenny” (Misty) Polk; his daughter, Elizabeth (Stephen) Adcock; his step-son, Allen Fowler; his granddaughter, Zoey Belle Polk; his nieces, Lynn (Cecil) Peters and Angie (Jay Nolen) of Lincoln and Oneonta respectively; his aunt, Edna Polk of Cook Springs; his sister, Linda Jennings; his longtime friend, Jerry Martin; his football buddy and good friend, Brian Tomberlin; and by his 3 fur babies, Jack, Mia, and Gertie.

The family would like to extend our thanks to Dr. Jeff Doty and the staff at Southeast Health.
