Mr. Larry Franklin Whiddon of Dothan passed away Monday, October 14, 2024 at the age of 74.
Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Selma Baptist Church Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 to 3 P.M. Saturday, October 19, 2024, one hour prior to the service.
Larry was a graduate of Taylor Elementary School and Rehobeth High School. He married LuNeal Morris, just after high school. He worked for several local businesses, before starting a 38-year career with UPS. Mr. Whiddon was active in both the church and the town of Taylor. He was a Deacon, Music Director, Sunday School teacher, and lawn care expert for Taylor Baptist Church. A Volunteer Firefighter, the longest member of the Taylor city council and served as the Mayor for the town he loved and called home. A music virtuoso and self-taught musician of various instruments and front man for a local band “Straw Dogs”. Larry was an avid Remote control plane pilot and instructor. He took that love and became a License Pilot and flew friends and family across the wiregrass area and Dog Island. A licensed Curio and relic gun dealer. He enjoyed riding his Soft Tail with his wife LuNeal, even if it was just to the store to pick up a few things. He enjoyed other hobbies, including bee keeping, Karaoke, and hunting for arrow heads. His favorite hobby was his grandchildren, even help establish the secret “WOW society” with them and beloved PaPa Claus.
He is preceded in death by his father; Rev. Thaxton Marion Whiddon, brother Kim Allen Whiddon, grandfather, Franklin Grady McKay, grandmother, Manie Glover McKay, and grandfather, Manion Whiddon.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, LuNeal Morris Whiddon of Dothan; mother Bobbie McKay Whiddon of Taylor; daughter Ginger L. Valachovic (Kelly J.) of Taylor; son Ryan Larry Whiddon (long time girlfriend Tabitha) of Dothan; brothers Danny Justin Whiddon (Debbie) of Taylor; Jonathan David Whiddon (Tracey) of Taylor; Grady Eugene Whiddon (Danielle) of Taylor; grandchildren Jesse Lee Boyett, Joshua James Boyett, Jared Allen Boyett, Madelyn McKay Whiddon, Mathew Ryan Whiddon, Joseph Michael Valachovic, Nicole D. Valachovic, and Victor Anthony Valachovic.
Pallbearers will be the sons, grandsons, James Boyett and John Henry Ehlert.
