Obituary: Mr. Larry Gene Lassiter
Mr. Larry Gene Lassiter of Fadette passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at SAMC. He was 67.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 9, 2016 at New Hinson Baptist Church with Rev. Johnny Strickland and Rev. Brian Klobe officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Slocomb directing. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Flowers will be accepted or if you choose, the family request that you honor Larry’s memory with your charitable contribution to New Hinson Baptist Church Building Fund, 1143 County Road 48 Slocomb, AL 36375 or to Alacare Hospice, 3379 West Main Street Dothan, AL 36305.
Mr. Lassiter was born August 11, 1949 in Geneva County to the late W.C. “Damon” and Elvia Kirkland Lassiter. One of eleven children, Larry grew up appreciating the value of hard work. He retired from AAA Cooper Transportation and farmed in Geneva County his entire life; providing for his wife and children and he made certain they never lacked or wanted for anything. Larry cared for his family dearly and will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, two sisters: Sheila Mitchell and Sybil Holton preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Diana Mitchell Lassiter, Fadette; two daughters: Angelia Nicole Lassiter Stevenson (Damon), Tuscaloosa and Shannon Michele Lassiter Purvis (Chad), Slocomb; one son, Jonathan Gene Lassiter (Alicia), Daphne; five grandchildren: Logun Purvis, Jessica Stevenson, Ashlyn Stevenson, Lilah Grace Lassiter and Lillie Lassiter; four sisters: Estelle Sawyer, Slocomb, Lounell Baxley (Howell), Fadette, Melba Grace Smith (James), Slocomb and Deborah Fowler (Ray), Graceville, FL; four brothers: Lewis Lassiter (Gail), Fadette, Rex & Drex Lassiter, Fadette and Ricky Lassiter (Judy), Dothan; several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
Larry’s nephews will serve as pallbearers.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the SAMC 7th Floor Nursing Staff, Dr. Sai Avula and Michelle and the staff of Alacare Hospice, especially Heather for the love and care given to Larry during his illness.
