CLIO…Mr. Lavon Powell, a resident of Clio, died Monday afternoon, August 12, 2024, in the Oakview Manor Healthcare Center in Ozark. He was 80.
Funeral services will be held at 5:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 14, 2024, in the Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Randy Adams officiating. Burial will follow in Pea River Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Clio. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 5:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Powell, son of the late Alf Powell and Mary C. Teal Powell, was a native of Elamville and lived in Clio most of his lifetime. He retired from the Barbour County Road & Bridge Department and in earlier years, he owned and operated an 18-wheeler that was leased to a trucking company. Some of his favorite times were spent fishing, gardening, listening to music, and rocking on the porch. He will always be remembered as a kindhearted loving person that will be missed by many. Mr. Powell was preceded in death by his wife, Sheree Jones Powell, grandson, Wesley Lavon Powell, and two brothers, Gary Powell and Charles Powell.
Surviving relatives include his children, Garry Powell (Melissa), Clio, Sheryl Harrell, Vancleave, Mississippi, Trudi Mallard (Doug), Elamville, and Phil Phillips, Bryan, Texas; grandchildren, Ashley, Justin, Brandi, Chasity, Christy, Lindsey, Monique, Blake, Toni, and Caleb; eighteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Stanley Teal, Steve Price, John Shehane, Will Farmer, Billy Hughes, Brandon Kirkland, and Doug Mallard.
