PLEASANT GROVE COMMUNITY…Mr. Leverette C. “Lee” Phillips, a resident of the Pleasant Grove Community, near Ozark, died early Saturday afternoon, November 6, 2021, at his farm. He was 74.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 12, 2021, in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Mike Whitt and Reverend Bill Hart officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in the church cemetery. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.


            Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 1124 County Road 11, Ozark, Alabama 36360.


            Mr. Phillips, son of the late L C Phillips and Gladys Robinson Phillips, was a native of Clio. He was a 1965 Graduate of Barbour County High School in Clio and attended Enterprise State Junior College. Mr. Phillips was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served in the United States Army. Following his military service, he returned to Clio and was married in 1970 to Linda Beasley Phillips. Mr. Phillips lived in various locations while working for the Department of the Army before moving to Ozark in 1978. He was retired from the Department of Army at Ft. Rucker as the Chief of Air Traffic Control (Army Radar Approach Control, ARAC). Mr. Phillips was an active member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where he was a Deacon, former Sunday school teacher, usher, and a softball coach. He enjoyed athletics was lettered in high school in football, track, and baseball. Mr. Phillips enjoyed the outdoors especially on his farm tending to the cattle.


            Surviving relatives include his wife of fifty-two years, Linda Beasley Phillips, Ozark; two daughters, Leanna Shea Phillips Rose, Carrollton, GA and Sharon Leigh Phillips Dilbeck (Charles), Skipperville; son, Bryant Leverett Phillips (Brittney), Ozark; sister, Martha Phillips Beckett; brother, Billy Phillips (Helen), all of Clio; six grandchildren, Phillip Rose, Sherri Davis (Ty), Charles J.L. Dilbeck, Brodie Phillips, Bailey Phillips, and Brayden Phillips; father-in-law, D. Mack Beasley (Arlene), Dothan; sister-in-law, Diane Weed and husband, Reverend Bill Weed, Ozark; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
