  Mr. Louie Harmon Seagers of Ashford passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at the age of 89.



A private graveside will be held at Memory Hill Cemetery due to the Covid 19 restrictions.


Mr. Seagers was born in Pansey, Alabama on December 18, 1930. He attended and graduated from Ashford High School in Alabama. In 1951, he enlisted in the United States Army where he would proudly serve for the next twenty-one years. His career began during the Korean War, carried through the Vietnam War, and continued through the numerous years through the Cold War. He received helicopter maintenance training at Fort Rucker, AL. Throughout his military career he was a helicopter maintenance crew chief, working on many models including the Sikorsky 34 and the notorious Hueys. His first tour to Japan in 1952, he met and married Ihoko “Linda Segers who he has been married too for the past fifty-five years. They proudly have four beautiful daughters. He was sent on a tour to Germany and two tours of Vietnam. His awards and honors include: Eleven Air Medals, three Good Conduct Medals, a Meritorious Unit Citation, Vietnam Service Medal, a Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal in 1960 with a Silver Scroll, a National Defense Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, an Army Commendation Medal, an Aircraft Crewman Badge with wings, and an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. He retired April 30, 1972.


After retirement, he attended Wallace Community College where he received two separate degrees. Afterwards, he managed a store for ten years. He enjoyed fresh water fishing, especially at Lake Eufaula. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ashford.


Mr. Seagers is preceded in death by his parents John C. Seagers and Lula Dees Seagers, wife Linda, brothers Simon, Oliver, Ollie, Charlie, Johnny, sisters Retha and Jewel and grandchild Rebecca Suzanne Hornsby.


Survivors include children Patricia Buie, Debi Hornsby (Steve), Sandy McCord (Steve), Kim Routzong (Robert) and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
