   Mr. Lu Max Willoughby, a resident of the Rocky Head Community, passed away Thursday morning, October 19, 2023, at Moundville Health and Rehabilitation. He was 84 years old.


   Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Rocky Head Baptist Church with Reverend Jeff Downing officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Olive Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing.


   The family will receive friends Saturday in the church from 1:30 P.M. until service time.


   Active pallbearers will be Colt Cadwell, Jeremy Tisdale, Evan Willoughby, Hunter Friday, Caleb Chambers, Grady Fulbright, Tapin Fulbright and Josiah Fulbright.


   Mr. Willoughby was born August 28, 1939 in Coffee County, Alabama to the late James Downing Willoughby and Lena Davis Willoughby. He served in the Alabama National Guard. Mr. Willoughby spent many years working in sales at Dunn Wholesale Hardware in Ozark and in maintenance for Dale County Schools. He was an active member of Rocky Head Baptist Church and a member of the Ariton Masonic Lodge. He was a man who loved to farm and spent much of his retirement in his beloved pea patch. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved to pull practical jokes on unsuspecting friends and was always willing to lend a helping hand.


   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Hughes Willoughby. He is survived by his three children, Donna (Philip) Cadwell, Susan (Jimmy) Tisdale, and Gary (Jennifer) Willoughby; five grandchildren, Colt (Alex) Cadwell, Jeremy (Jaymie) Tisdale, Sarah (Hunter) Friday, Olivia (Caleb) Chambers, and Evan Willoughby; three great-grandchildren, Grayson Tisdale, Griffin Tisdale and John Tillman Cadwell. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their appreciation to the nurses and staff of Oakview Manor Health and Rehabilitation in Ozark, Alabama and Moundville Health and Rehabilitation in Moundville, Alabama.


   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gideon’s International, P.O. Box 291 Ozark, Alabama 36361 or to Mount Olive Cemetery Fund, C/O Mr. Gerald Goodson, 1681 Hwy 51, Ariton, Alabama 36311
