Mr. Marvin Hall (Bill) Snead, 93, of Enterprise, AL died, Monday, March 3, 2014 in Dothan, AL.
The funeral service will be 11:00 A.M., Friday, March 7, 2014 at First Baptist Church, Enterprise, AL with Dr. John Granger and Rev. Sonny Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing. The family will receive friends at 10:00 A.M. in the fellowship hall of First Baptist Church prior to the 11:00 A.M. service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Christian Youth Camp, Inc. Mr. Snead was a vital part of the Enterprise community until he suffered a stroke and seizure in 2009, after which he resided with his daughter, Bonnie, in Dothan until his death. Mr. Snead was a WWII veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps. He and his family came to live in Enterprise in 1956 where he worked at Ft. Rucker as a flight instructor until his retirement in 1974. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he served as deacon for many years. He also was a member of Gideons International. At the age of 80, Mr. Snead started a camp for children in the Enterprise area that continues each summer. He has served over 200 children.
Mr. Snead was a man who faithfully served God, his family, church, community, and country. Because of his life Enterprise is a better community and his legacy lives on in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren!
Mr. Snead was predeceased by his wife, Lois W. (Billie) Snead of 58 years.
Surviving are one son, Jerry W. Snead (Lynn) Sterrett, AL; two daughters, Sandi Whatley (DeMond) Franklin, TN; Bonnie Chancey, Dothan, AL; eight grandchildren, Virginia Whatley Berry (Sam) Franklin, TN; Abby Whatley Baalbergen (Derek) Franklin, TN; Matthew Chancey (Jennie) Western Cape, South Africa; Jonathan Chancey (Rene`) Wetumpka, AL; Justin Snead (Chrissy) Sterrett, AL; Katie Pilcher (Tim) Dothan, AL; Joshua Chancey (Abby) Mobile, AL; Caleb Chancey (Laura) Birmingham, AL; thirty five great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Snead; Jonathan Snead; Abigail Snead; Lillian Berry; Anna Berry; Samuel Berry; William Berry; Bethany Baalbergen; June Baalbergen, Arie Baalbergen; Ellie Baalbergen; Suzette Baalbergen; John Nathan Chancey; Alexander Chancey; Thomas Chancey; Belle Chancey; Felicity Chancey; Tucker Chancey; Patrick Chancey; Benjamin Chancey; Maddie Chancey; Hero Chancey; Charlotte Chancey (due in June 2014); Hannah Chancey; James Chancey; Haley Chancey; Jillian Pilcher; Emily Pilcher; Elizabeth Pilcher; Hope Pilcher; Camille Chancey; Lydia Chancey; Baby Chancey (due in September 2014); Rhodes Chancey; Everett Coen Chancey; one brother, Leon Snead (Bobbie) Madison, NC; two sisters, Jean Belton (Bill) Winston-Salem, NC; Carol Reid, Mayodan, NC; one sister-in-law, Mary Howard Goins, Mayodan, NC; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
The family expresses a special thank you to the loving caregivers to Mr. Snead over the past five years. They are, Beverly Whatley, Ruby Merrill, Brenda Jackson, Angela Moore, Carolyn Russ, Mary Carroll, Andy Hebert and Gary Frith.
