Mr. Odell Thomas of Samson and formerly of Orlando, Fla. passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2016. He was 85. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2016, at Antioch Baptist Church in Gainesville, Fla. with Rev. Daniel Kendall officiating. Burial will follow, with military rites, in the church cemetery with Pittman Funeral Home of Samson directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Mr. Thomas was born in Alachua, Fla. on August 14, 1931, to the late George and Callie Thomas. He served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement he was a diesel mechanic for many years in Orlando, Fla. In his pastime Mr. Thomas enjoyed watching all types of sports. He was preceded in death by eight of his siblings.
He is survived by his wife of forty-three years, Earlene Thomas of Samson; two daughters, Nellie Soto (Javier) of Plymouth, Fla. and Sandra Bradley of Auburn, Wash.; three grandchildren, Brooke Bradley of Euharle, Ga., Jennifer Hensley (Mike) of Winter Haven, Fla. and Ryan Bradley (Ashley) of Lakeland, Fla.; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Fred Thomas (Marion) of Seffner, Fla.; two sisters, Mary Raye and Ava Krutler, both of Gainesville, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
