Obituary: Oliver N. Heath Sr.
Mr. Oliver N. Heath Sr. of Enterprise passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at his residence surrounded by family. He was 94.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am on Monday, December 28, 2015 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory in Enterprise with Reverend Oliver N. Heath Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Meadowlawn Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Enterprise directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday beginning at 10:00 am and continuing until service time.
Mr. Heath was born June 11, 1921 in Savannah, Georgia to the late Naason and Kinnie Cowart Heath.
In lieu of flowers the family requests offerings to First Baptist Church Building Fund or another favorite charity.
Oliver is survived by his loving wife of 73 years Marie Adele (Dell), son Oliver N Heath, Jr. (Mary Louise) of Mobile, Al, son Thomas A Heath of Enterprise, Al, and daughter Jane Heath Alley (W. Del) of Apex, NC.
His devoted grandchildren are David Heath (Cindy) of Houston, TX, Ezra Heath (Deana) of Birmingham, AL, Micah Heath (Liza) of Mobile, AL, Lydia Heath Sandberg (Christian) of Mobile, Al., Laura Ally Kirk (Daniel) of San Francisco, CA, Meredith Alley of Philadelphia, PA, Timothy Heath (Katherine) of Mobile, AL plus nine great-grandchildren, and sister Julia Heath Russell and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Upon graduation from high school, Oliver enlisted in the U S Army Air Corps. As a WWII combat veteran, he served in North Africa and Italy. He retired from the U S Air Force with the rank of Chief Master Sargent after having served over 21 years. Being in the first group to receive that rank he had the distinction of being known as a Charter Chief. He was a true patriot and loved the USA. His second career was with the U S Civil Service associated with Brookley Field, Mobile, AL and Ft. Rucker, Al.
Oliver loved learning and through the Boot Strap program completed both the BS and MS degrees at FSU. He was an inspiration to many who earned college degrees.
Oliver was a long time member and generous supporter of First Baptist Church of Enterprise. He was a member of the Truth Seekers Sunday School Class and enjoyed meetings with Teen Agers.
