During the morning of April 20, 2016, Paul Frank Turner, Sr. passed away from natural causes at his home, surrounded by his family. He was 80.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Friday, April 22, 2016 at the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.
The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 10 to 11 A.M. Friday, April 22, 2016, one hour prior to the service. Paul was born on July 22, 1935, in Geneva County, Alabama. He was the third child and the first son of Quincy Newton Turner and Alma Retherford Turner. Mr. Turner spent his childhood in the Hartford, Geneva County area, attending school, working, hunting, and fishing. He graduated from Geneva County High School in 953.
Following high school, Mr. Turner attended Troy State University and served a tour in the United States Air Force, with his service commencing during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Turner met his beloved wife, Virginia, in the Sweet Shop in Slocomb, Alabama, having been introduced by his best friend from childhood in 1957. They were married in 1959 and remained married until his passing.
Paul and Virginia moved to, and made their life in, Dothan, Alabama. Paul began his first and only job with Solomon Moter Co., Inc., where he worked for forty years before retiring in 1997.
Paul was a passionate outdoorsman and hunter, and prided himself on introducing young people to the wonders of outdoors.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Quincy and Alma Turner, his son, Michael Paul Turner, his sister, Loyce Bass, and his brother, James Turner.
Paul was survived by his loving wife, Virginia, his sister Jean Strickland, his daughter, Patti Horton (Mark), of Nashville, Tennessee, his daughter, Amy Fitch (Lee) of Gordon, Alabama, and his son, Paul F. Turner, Jr. (Shea) of Dothan, Alabama. He was also survived by his grandchildren, Connor Horton, Kendall Horton, Zane Fitch, John Paul Turner, and Brady Turner, all of who loved and will miss “Granddaddy.”
