Mr. Paul "Poppies" Michael Guerrette of Samson passed away early Wednesday morning, March 6, 2013, in his sleep due to complications from the Gulf War. He was 52. A memorial service with full military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at his residence, 650 Ard Road, Samson, Alabama 36477. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675 and vetinneed.net.


Paul was born in Southington, Connecticut on October 11, 1960 to the late Joseph and Jeannine Cote Guerrette. The family lived in Southington before moving to Willimantic where Paul graduated from Windham High School in the Class of 1978.


Paul went into the Army and served sixteen years. He became ill after the Gulf War and became a disabled veteran. Paul moved to Daleville, Alabama to be closer to his mom. After his mom passed away, Paul moved to Samson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Patricia Prior Guerrette.


He is survived by his sister, Gail Guerrette Asaro of California; two nephews, Jasen Asaro of California and Justin Asaro of Illinois; two nieces, Jessica Asaro and Veronica Guerrette, both of California; two great nieces; and two great nephews.


Paul will be missed by all who knew him.
