Paul Wayne Exum, a life-long resident of Cottonwood, passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 after a brief illness.
Memorial services will be held at 1 PM Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Danny Coachman officiating. Burial will follow in Cottonwood City Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Exum was born in Cottonwood on November 26, 1934 to the late Thomas Espy and Minnie Pearl Exum. He was a graduate of Cottonwood High School. Upon graduation he joined the United States Air Force where he honorably served his country. He was a member of Cottonwood First Baptist Church and enjoyed being active in the Cottonwood Civic Club. Mr. Exum was involved in the logging business for many years and later in life became a bus driver at Cottonwood High School where he worked until his retirement. Mr. Exum will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Mr. Exum is preceded in death by a son, Gary Paul Exum; his parents, Thomas Espy and Minnie Pearl Exum; a brother EL Exum; a sister Annie Pearl Hall; a sister-in-law Claudia Exum; and brothers-in-law RL Hall and Charles Snell.
Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years Janice Snell Exum; daughters, Janet McCardle (Jimmy) and Jane Floyd (Eric); grandchildren, Kasey Morris (Dustin), Kelly McCord (Anthony), Joshua Sewell (Kaylee), Blake Floyd (Ellie), Jacie Jenks (Chase), Allyson Habron (Jason Campbell), Hunter Floyd (Taylor Helms), Luke McCardle, Jake McCardle, Austin McCardle, and Ethan McCardle; great-grandchildren, Brody Morris, Danny Hardrick, Braylon Morris, Logan McCardle, Sydney Curry, Henlee Floyd, Aaden McCord, Lydia Floyd, Nolan Sewell, Brooks Taylor, Saylor Kate Habron, Brannon Luke Floyd, Raelee Sewell, and Banks Habron; siblings, Charles Exum (Patricia), Glenn Exum, Clara Exum, Tommie Snell; former sons-in-law Glenn Habron and Jamie Sewell; and several special nieces and nephews.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are Joshua Sewell, Dustin Morris, Anthony McCord, Hunter Floyd, Chase Jenks, Jason Campbell, Blake Floyd, Austin McCardle, Ethan McCardle, Brody Morris, Braylon Morris, Danny Hardrick, Aaden McCord, Nolan Sewell, Brooks Taylor, Brannon Luke Floyd, and Banks Habron.
Flowers will be accepted or donations can be made in Mr. Exum’s name to the Athletic Department at Cottonwood High School or The Ashford High School Band.
