Paul Charles Weaver, age 99, of Brunswick, Georgia, died on June 2, 2017, after
suffering from pneumonia and dementia.
He was born on May 8, 1918, in Clarence, New York, to Charles Edward Weaver and
Louise Bernhard Seyfang. He had two brothers (Glen and Leon) and two sisters (Doris
Neff and Marion Harfman), all of whom preceded him in death.
He began his formal education in a one-room school house and continued at Parker
High School. After graduating, he enrolled in a correspondence course for diesel
training which concluded with hands-on experience in Detroit, Michigan. He was
employed in Buffalo at the Curtiss plant making P-40 airplanes.
Paul enlisted in the Army Air Force on June 9, 1941, and was stationed at Lawson
Field in Fort Benning, Georgia. After the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, he was
stationed at several bases within the United States before being sent to New Guinea on
a Victory-class ship. From there he went to the Philippines and on to Japan. He was
discharged December 16, 1945.
On September 12, 1942, after a five-month courtship, he married Rita Mae Rice in
Auburn, Georgia. They moved to Clarence, New York, in December 1945 after his
discharge from the Army. Here he owned and operated a repair garage and gas station.
Paul was preceded in death by their first two children (a daughter and a son). They
had three surviving children: Betsy (Lindstedt-Monkelbaan), Charlotte (Burton) and
Paula (Harrison). There are seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
In June 1981, Paul and Rita moved to Malvern, Alabama, to be near her parents.
In March 2015, due to health problems, they moved to Brunswick, Georgia, to be near
their daughter, Charlotte. Paul’s health continued to decline and in September 2015
he entered the Senior Care Nursing Home where he lived until his death.
Paul is buried in the Ward-Wilson Memory Hill Cemetery in Dothan, Alabama.
