Mr. PJ Thomas of Samson passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2014. He was 95. A memorial service with full military rites will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 29, 2014 in the chapel of Pittman Funeral Home in Samson with Rev. Sam Totten officiating and Pittman Funeral Home of Samson directing.
Mr. Thomas was born in Sneads, Fla. on November 17, 1918 to the late Richard Jefferson Thomas and Sally Ann Bozeman Thomas. He attended Lakeland High School in Lakeland, Fla. until he began his career in the US Army Air Corp at the age of thirteen. He originally worked as an automobile mechanic, but served in numerous capacities throughout his military career. He ended his career as a pilot. He retired as Colonel from the US Air Force in 1950. He received many awards including the Bronze Star.
Following his military career, Mr. Thomas retired from Vollers Heating and Cooling. He also owned and operated Arctic Air Service in Jacksonville, Fla. He and his wife moved to Samson in 1993 to be close to their grandkids. He enjoyed harvesting oysters, gardening, camping, and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sally Lou Thomas Seaborn; and his sister, Doris Bellflower.
He is survived by his loving wife of forty-five years, Ruby Thomas; two daughters, Sharon Thomas Whalen (Michael) of Jacksonville, Fla., Deann Dunham of Montgomery; son, Dewayne Eaddy of Samson; five grandchildren, Logan Eaddy of Chanellor, Kierston Gillis (Andy) of Samson, Brandon Ranck of Jacksonville, Fla., April Leizear of Adamstown, Md., and Kurtis Leizear of Samson; three great grandchildren, Ripken Gillis, Collin Leizear, Jaida’Lyn Mae Bignell, both of Adamstown, Md.
