Ray Lavon Odom, Sr., 72, of Cowarts, Alabama, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, September 20, 2012 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 23, 2012 in the Clearman Chapel of Southern Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Jeffrey Pettis and Rev. Ricky Carroll officiating. Burial will follow in Crestlawn Cemetery with Southern Heritage directing. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Saturday, September 22, 2012 at the funeral home.
Flowers are accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 6267, Dothan, Alabama.
Born in Madrid, Alabama, Ray was a son of the late C. O. and Allie B. Enfinger Odom. He was retired from the City of Dothan, where he worked as a mechanic in the city shop and was a long time member of Cowarts Creek Freewill Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Sgt Major Edward Odom, USMC.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia Epps Odom; four sons and daughters-in-law, Ray (Amy) Odom, Jr., Webb, Wallace (Jennifer) Odom, Avon, Richard (Sarah) Odom, Ashford, Houdi (Kim) Odom, Cowarts; two brothers, Wallace (Mable) Odom and Kenneth (Betty) Odom both of Cowarts; two sisters, Elizabeth (Kenneth) Fulford, Phenix City, Alabama, Betty (Henry) Pybus, Dothan; sister-in-law, Marsha Odom, Cowarts; extended family, Jeff Hayborn and John Paul Smith; thirteen grandchildren, Sam, Caroline, Amee and David Odom, Amber and Lauren Odom, Aubrey Gorday, Sarah Odom, Amanda Watson, William Strength, Steven Strength, Katlyn and Kacy Odom; and eight great grandchildren.
